Botvitin Life Skills Training is a highly effective substance abuse and violence prevention program offered to all 7th grade students at Mifflin County Middle School.
This comprehensive and exciting program provides adolescents and young teens with the confidence and skills necessary to successfully handle challenging situations. Botvitin Life Skills Training is backed by over 30 scientific studies and is recognized as a Model or Exemplary program by an array of agencies including the U.S Department of Education and the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention.
Rather than merely teaching information about the dangers of substance use, Botvin Life Skills Training promotes healthy alternatives to risky behavior with activities designed to:
At Mifflin County Middle School, the program takes place one time per cycle for 15 weeks during the school year. Students receive a workbook and instruction about setting goals, making, decisions, keeping friends, staying calm, and communicating with others. This is a great program that is helpful for every student. Remember – substance abuse and violence can affect anyone.
2020-2021 data shows that after completing the Botvitin Life Skills Training program, 70% percent of the seventh grade students in Mifflin County maintained or improved their attitudes toward drug and alcohol use and 34% improved their anti-drug knowledge.
